My favorite fashion brand: Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier is a highly acclaimed and influential French fashion designer known for his bold and unconventional designs. Though now “retired,” the reason I chose this label as my favourite fashion brand is because of its three main reasons: innovation and creativity, marketing strategies, and sustainability approach.
Gaultier often pushes boundaries and challenges conventional norms, including his exploration of gender fluidity in fashion. He was one of the first designers to prominently feature androgynous and non-binary models on the runway, earning praise for his inclusivity and progressive views on gender.
Their proactive marketing strategies allowed the brand to stand out in the fashion industry. Its ability to balance creativity with commercial success including using celebrity endorsements like Madonna and its constant digital presence has helped it maintain relevance and a loyal customer base over the years.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s approach to sustainability is also another important factor taken into consideration for the choice. In 2018, Jean Paul Gaultier announced a fur-free policy, pledging to no longer use real fur in his designs. This decision aligned with the growing trend in the fashion industry to move away from animal fur. Gaultier introduced upcycling and vintage collections that repurposed and reimagined materials from past collections. This approach not only reduced waste but also celebrated the brand’s heritage.
Though only listed a few for each reason, there are so many more that can be taken into consideration.
