my favourite fashion brand

Vivienne Westwood

The question of what your favourite fashion brand is can be a hard one to answer, with so many good options of who to choose. I feel that undoubtedly one of my favourites is Vivienne Westwood. Since the brand was started in 1971, Dame Vivienne Isabel Westwood has changed undeniably changed the face of fashion with her creations that not only speak the language of couture but also social protest, merging fashion and politics.

The logo of her brand in itself represents so well, the ethos of the brand. The Harris Tweed orb represents tradition and craftsmanship, whilst the rings of Saturn represent a future of exploration and innovation. She was never stuck in the past, only influenced by it. This makes her special as so many designers nowadays struggle to come up with fresh innovative ideas. This is also why I think her autumn winter 1987 Harris Tweed collection is so special, as this was her debut using Harris Tweed and thus is why she was able to recreate the Harris Tweed authority orb into her famous logo. Moreover, it is a good example of how she was able to create a whole new collection whilst still being influenced by her old designs and maintain her brand image that people loved.

Not only was she an inspiring fashion designer, but also an inspiring activist, supporting hundreds of causes as well as being an ambassador for Greenpeace. There have been many occasions Westwood has made political statements on runways, for example SS14 to send a message about climate change, which shows how she uses her voice for the greater good.

Vivienne Westwood uses their platform to fight climate change and does what they can to adapt how they make their clothes and accessories to care for the environment and the people living in it, and in an industry as harmful as the fashion industry this is inspiring and not seen all that often, just another reason why Vivienne Westwood is a brand that is and rightfully should be, adored by all.
